CJ Millar is the founder of October Creek
Founded on her love of horses and her favorite season, autumn, on her mountain farm by the Clove Brook Creek
Located in Northern New Jersey on the border of New York and Pennsylvania, October Creek is a riding team and group of friends that focuses on learning and fun with our horses. We do everything from trail rides and hunter paces, to schooling shows, fox hunting, beach rides, and even camping with our horses. We also offer lessons and training through the Arabian Rescue Mission, who manages the boarding and training aspect of our farm.
Home to head trainer CJ Millar and her eight horses, she brings with her decades of experience and a B.S. from Centenary College in Equestrian Studies. Her love and passion for building the connection and relationship between horse and owner shows in her work with her students as well as her own horses. Her array of awards and wins focus mostly on fun events, such as schooling show jumper championships and year-end awards. Most notably, CJ is the only horse and rider team with her main jumper and OTTB Sky’s The Limit to win both hunt cups in the same season – the Ronald Stearns Perpetual Trophy with Windy Hollow Hunt for their annual series, and the Virginia Martin Trophy with Windy Hollow Hunt and Quiet Creek in the fall pace series. CJ’s horse Ridge, an off-track Arabian, also achieved high honors in being selected as a finalist in ACTHA’s America’s Favorite Trail Horse competition.
The goal of October Creek is to encourage students and horse owners to build the relationship with their horses through ground work and under saddle work, and to attend fun events that set positive goals to work for with their horses. Whether you want to enjoy hunter paces, trail ride, or show in hunters or jumpers, setting goals and working towards building the relationship with your horse is the focus of October Creek.
